The exhibition “Life of a Forest Brother” explores the lives and activities of the forest brothers – members of the resistance force against the Soviet occupation – , their families, and their supporters who sought refuge in the forests of Järvamaa after the Second World War. Through photographs and personal recollections, it reveals life in bunkers and hiding places, the daily struggle for survival, and the spiritual resilience that enabled them to endure the pressures of the occupation. Photographs confiscated from captured forest brothers were once added by the KGB to investigation files and are now preserved in the National Archives of Estonia. At the heart of the exhibition are the remarkable images captured by the legendary forest brother Arnold Lindermann.
The exhibition has been curated by Tiit Noormets and designed by Peeter Paasmäe.
The exhibition will be on display in the KGB Cells Museum until the end of January 2026.
