The 19th-century Tartu Citizen’s Home Museum is located at Jaani 16 in the Old Town.
People with impaired mobility can access the museum from the low-rise stairs on the courtyard side of the building. Bicycles and prams can be left in the courtyard. (Prams can also be brought indoors, if necessary.) We ask pets to wait outside.
On foot: Walk from Town Hall Square along Ülikooli Street towards the university. After Ülikooli Café the thoroughfare becomes Jaani Street. Continue along it for 100 metres until you reach St John’s Church on your right. Beyond the church you’ll notice a single-storey timber house with a light plaster finish and window shutters: this is where the museum is situated.
By bus: The closest bus stop to the museum is Lai, frequented by buses 6 and 21. A bit further away (250 m) is the Kloostri bus stop (buses 6 and 22). City-centre bus stops are within walking distance through the beautiful Old Town.
By car (from the city centre):
Parking is available in front of the museum in Zone A (in which you must indicate the start time of your parking; free parking for 15 min, followed by a fee of €2 per hour; free on weekends). To reach the museum, start by turning from Vabaduse Avenue onto Munga Street, drive until you come to the junction of Munga and Jaani streets and then turn left. Beyond St John’s Church you’ll notice a single-storey timber house with a light plaster finish and window shutters: this is where the museum is situated.
Ticket sales end half an hour before the museum closes!
